"Power lines, my travlin' partner on this ride. Dripping, pulling - up and down, in this sing song, their lullaby blends with the swaying train. I curl myself into this journey; folding myself up into this pocket of time. Old familiars greet me - that swing set in the back yard, the ruins of an old church covered in new birth and old - mixed with unremembered newness." Tapping the Wire

So many thoughts come and go. I am lazy to write them down; comfortable in letting them pass along, like time does tick by ticking hand. I am a thousand miles away from the written word.

My days are filled with countless stories…I find they can only fit into verbal retelling. I think that is it, I have become vocal in my days again, leaving the written word for something other than an expression of me. I do miss my connection here. I miss painting with words. I can almost feel the rhythmic swaying between mind and fingers. Though I hear a story coming, it is quick to leave just out of reach before I can grab it.

I’m currently working an over night shift. I actually work days now, but I pick up shifts anytime I can get them. Unfortunately for me, the overnights are the only extra shifts opening up. I have become comfortable with waking in dawn’s early light rather than going to bed in it. I long to be in bed.

I went outside to get a sense of fresh air to wake me. I do appreciate the intoxicating liquor of the night air. The earth breathes at night, releasing this thick perfume, the temperate air feels grounding. After having many long hot days, the nights have become a warm expression. No coat needed; nothing to brace against the air, I could wear shorts out at 4am. My mind wandered to sleeping with all the windows open, letting the earthy air wrap around me like a cocoon while I sleep. I believe I am done working at night, all night, until morning comes.

The bright side to nocturnal employment is tomorrow while I sleep, I will be unconscious through the sweltering heat of the day. By noon, the body is layered with perspiration, too long outside and it becomes a river of sweat pouring off the body. The days are all a dehydrating experience; heat rising from every orifice this town has to offer. The pavement a sticky skin, sun burnt and peeling, reeling in the humidity rising. I will be unconscious through tomorrow’s hot day. That’s my consolation.

Hmm. Is this really what I came to write on this page? Another ramble on weather…another diatribe on working all night?

I guess I am just tapping this wire, seeing what I can get. Its just another rambled prose on an overnight shift.

Count me down, but not out

I just passed the one month marker toward graduating. Yes, that’s right this GoGo’s going to be graduating May 4th. I am very excited, albeit tired at this moment. It’s a double edge date. On one edge, all nice and shiney is the symbolic finality of this 2 year program (i.e., graduation ceremonies). I have worked hard (internship, school, work – oh my!) and cannot believe the end is so near. On the other edge, all sharp and pointy, it’s a countdown date for all the final projects due, forms to submit and the cap and gown to buy. In other words, every day toward that date brings me closer to another deadline.

I find it ironic because last year I totally made fun of my friend The Chief (all Hail), who waited till the last minute to purchase her own cap and gown. Not in a bad way, but most definitely had a laugh on her account. Hey now, her gyrlfriend, Driftwood, laughed with me. The poetic justice in this is I too find myself pushing the envelope in purchasing the thing. Yeah. Let Go and Let Karma I always say. ;)

Anywho, I wanted to publicly state I am aware the cap and gown is SOO a last minute buy.

Here I am nearing the end of what really was the primary relationship I had to this blog - school. My experiences are coming to an end. I began this blog as I started school. I wonder, will I continue my residence in blogville after I graduate? I still don’t know. I am no Dooce, no Twitches, no Daring To Write. What I am is a little bummed out at this moment. I want to write the reflections and life stories as I countdown to graduation, EXCEPT currently the pointy side of my countdown is keeping me a little distracted.

You know, the more I think about it, this GoGo feels misinformed by faculty who told us the first semester was the hardest but failed to mention the last semester is the busiest. I'm just saying a little "Dude, you're screwed" would have been helpful.

Smiles.

Ah well. If I am not heard from this month, know that I am well and heading toward another finish line…Thee finish line.

The Ironman of finish lines.

As Always With a Smile and a Laugh,

compass

Time has filled itself to the brim of my day with academic obligations, work negotiations, and internship reviews. Still something has changed. Something in me and around me has moved. It feels as simple as moving a knickknack from one shelf to another, a minor detail only the owner would notice, yet I am impacted like my whole house has changed.

My internal compass twists and sways in my days ever steady, it continues to point out my direction. When I turn south it reminds me where my north still resides. With this, the pace in my days does not faze me like it once did, though I still look forward to reprieves, still defend against built up stress…still think my administration class is just plain stupid.

Spring Semester 2007

First week back to the grind of school is always busy. Getting situated with classes, organizing the internship, downloading all the articles we have to read is a muttered mess of organization. Added to this, I had to work out some details for graduation this spring. I am graduating in Spring 2007, but am taking a couple more classes this summer to fulfill some elective credits. That’s the task commentary for the week. I am taking three classes - a policy class on Aging, Family and Group therapy, and a MSW administrative class. The last class is going to be the tedious one. We are learning how to "develop" a program. Yeah, I’d rather do hands on learning, thank you.

Internship is going swell. I am training a new MSW intern, so there will be two of us now. I keep meaning to post more about what it is like to be a MSW intern at a Veterinary Teaching Hospital for the owners of animals in crisis. It’s a rather unique experience. Its also nice to have a fellow student involved for two reasons. It takes the spot life off of me as the poster child for this unique placement and I have company. Its nice to have another student around to talk about the whole affair.

Which leads me to the job. I did not get my promotion. Oh, not because of anything I did or didn’t do. The position I was gaming for was filled by someone laid off. In fact, no one interviewed for the position, the union simply demanded she get the job opening. Personally, I am disappointed, but completely understand. If I was laid off, I would hope the union would help me to get another job within the organization quickly. It just happens in this case, it was another woman and the job I wanted. Ironically, I will be working with her, so I’m glad I see the bigger picture in all of this. Lets hope she has a good personality. Still I’m bummed I didn’t get the promotion.

That's the week in a nutshell. Pretty dry at the moment. It takes time to settle into the routine of things. But isn't this the cutest kitty pic! Somewhere, somehow, I turned into a big ball of mush for furry things.
